DESCRIPTION:Simonholt is very pleased to announce that Quadwrangle Music is\ncombining forces with The Friends of the Nanaimo Jazz Society to bring\nthe extraordinary Jacob Chung Quartet back to Nanaimo from New York at\nthe Simonholt Restaurant Feb. 18th. 7:30pm. \nFor those who have not had the experience of seeing Jacob’s Quartet in\naction\, this is your chance! Tenor saxophonist Jacob moved from Toronto\nto New York City in 2022\, after releasing his debut album Epistle\, to\nstudy with Vincent Herring. He has since performed with Ken Peplowski\,\nthe John Pizzarelli Big Band\, the Mingus Big Band\, and Pasquale Grasso\nto name a few. With the Cellar Music label\, Chung has released two\nalbums: The Sage\, featuring Herring and drummer Joe Farnsworth\, in 2024\nand Live at Frankie’s Jazz Club in 2025. Jacob was also awarded\n“Outstanding Soloist” in Downbeat Magazine in 2024.\nThe show will open with a set by the Wellington Jazz Academy jazz\nstudents\, under the leadership of Carmella Luvisotto\, whose generous\nspirit and dedication to her students has resulted in some of Canada’s\nleading players emerging from her focused tutelage. \nTickets are $30.00 (students\, Quadwrangle Regulars and NIJFA subscribers\n$20.00)\, available from Simonholt (250) 933-3338.
