DESCRIPTION:Simonholt Restaurant is very pleased to announce that veteran\nsongwriter\, Ray Materick\, will be playing for us May 31st. at the\nSimonholt Restaurant. \nIf you do not know Ray\, he well known for his hit song\, “Linda\, Put The\nCoffee On”\, from the late 70’s when signed the Asylum Records. Ray has\nbeen writing solidly ever since and has well over twenty albums to his\nname and numerous high-credits to his name since he debut album. He will\nbe performing with Glen Foster (lead guitar)\, Maggy (vocals)\,and Terry\nBramhall (bass). Glen and Terry are musicians from Ray’s original band\nback in the late 70’s and this is a momentous reunion and celebration\nfor them. SUMMARY:The JOHN MOULDER Quintet at Simonholt Restaurant
DESCRIPTION:The JOHN MOULDER Quintet\nWe are thrilled to be presenting one of the finest and most unique jazz\nguitarists in North America\, John Moulder\, to Vancouver Island. John who\nrecords with some of the worlds most accomplished jazz musicians\,\nincluding Pat Metheny’s rhythm section\, will be playing with in a\nQuintet featuring some of Canada’s leading players\, Ryan Oliver\n(saxes.)\, Nick Peck (piano/keys)\, Ken Lister (bass) and John Miller\n(drums). \nJohn Moulder is a guitarist and composer whose music has evolved from an\nassimilation of various musical traditions such that David Rickert from\nAll About Jazz wrote\, “Moulder has a distinct and exciting approach that\nensures that his albums sound like nothing else out there. An ingenious\nimproviser with a seemingly endless instinct for variety\, he is\ndefinitely one to watch.” His most recent release entitled Metamorphosis\n(Origin 2022) features Richie Beirach\, Steve Rodby\, Paul Wertico with\nnew compositions penned by Moulder and described by British poet and\nessayist Raul da Gama as\, “an album of music to die for.” \nIn the course of his career\, John is grateful to have performed\nnationally and internationally\, and played with many talented musicians\,\nboth known and unknown. In live performances and recordings\, John has\nperformed with diverse artists such as Lyle Mays\, Niels Orsted Pederson\n\, Eddie Harris\, Bob Mintzer\, Paul McCandless\, Paul Wertico\, Kurt Elling\,\nArild Anderson and Bendik Hofseth. \nFrom his hometown of Chicago\, he has performed with creative musicians\ntoo numerous to mention and enjoys collaborating with them on various\nprojects. As an educator\, he is currently a faculty member within the\njazz studies’ departments at Northwestern University and the College of\nthe Performing Arts at Roosevelt University/Chicago. \nWe are very pleased to bring John Moulder to Vancouver Island and back\nhim with some of Canada’s best jazz players.\nTickets are $35.00. DESCRIPTION:Simonholt is more than thrilled to present the Carl Mayotte Quintet\nfor their first visit to Nanaimo from Montreal\, at the Simonholt\nRestaurant\, March 8th. 7:30pm . \nCarl is an Award Winning electric bassist and is playing with his\nQuintet featuring: Carl Mayotte (bass and compositions)\, Gabriel Cyr\n(guitar)\, Damien-Jade Cyr (saxes)\, Francis Grégoire (Keys) and Stephane\nChamberland (drums). Believe me\, there are no passengers in this superb\nband!  This is jazz fusion at its very best and a special look out for\nguitarist Gabriel Cyr\, who is a superb player in the Larry Carlton\nstyle! \nWinner of the 2020-2021 Jazz Radio-Canada Revelation title\, Carl Mayotte\nis one of the most prominent young bassists and jazz musicians in Quebec\nand Canada at the moment. Having started his professional career at the\nage of 16 and completed a master’s degree in jazz performance at McGill\nUniversity\, his virtuosity and versatility have been recognized by\nseveral musicians and critics\, from Alain Caron to Bass Magazine. His\nthird album\, “Escale\,” earned him a Felix Award for Jazz Album of the\nYear in 2022. In addition\, in the summer of 2022\, he established a new\njazz music camp in Kamouraska\, bringing together musicians of all ages\nand skill levels. One of the young musician’s goals is to democratize\njazz and bring this musical genre to the forefront.
