DESCRIPTION:Simonholt is more than thrilled to present the Carl Mayotte Quintet\nfor their first visit to Nanaimo from Montreal\, at the Simonholt\nRestaurant\, March 8th. 7:30pm . \nCarl is an Award Winning electric bassist and is playing with his\nQuintet featuring: Carl Mayotte (bass and compositions)\, Gabriel Cyr\n(guitar)\, Damien-Jade Cyr (saxes)\, Francis Grégoire (Keys) and Stephane\nChamberland (drums). Believe me\, there are no passengers in this superb\nband!  This is jazz fusion at its very best and a special look out for\nguitarist Gabriel Cyr\, who is a superb player in the Larry Carlton\nstyle! \nWinner of the 2020-2021 Jazz Radio-Canada Revelation title\, Carl Mayotte\nis one of the most prominent young bassists and jazz musicians in Quebec\nand Canada at the moment. Having started his professional career at the\nage of 16 and completed a master’s degree in jazz performance at McGill\nUniversity\, his virtuosity and versatility have been recognized by\nseveral musicians and critics\, from Alain Caron to Bass Magazine. His\nthird album\, “Escale\,” earned him a Felix Award for Jazz Album of the\nYear in 2022. In addition\, in the summer of 2022\, he established a new\njazz music camp in Kamouraska\, bringing together musicians of all ages\nand skill levels. One of the young musician’s goals is to democratize\njazz and bring this musical genre to the forefront.
